Wahome Slams Gachagua Over Criticism of Ruto’s Diplomatic Engagements
Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Alice Wahome has strongly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his recent remarks targeting President William Ruto and the Government, accusing him of political bitterness and inconsistent leadership messaging.
Wahome took issue with Gachagua’s comments questioning Kenya’s diplomatic standing following a high-level international event where President Ruto hosted more than 30 Heads of State and Government. She said the event had elevated Kenya’s global profile and should have been acknowledged rather than ridiculed.
According to the CS, the former Deputy President’s remarks reflected what she termed as “bitterness and desperation,” adding that they undermined Kenya’s diplomatic achievements.
She also faulted Gachagua for what she described as contradictory political statements, citing his criticism of international leaders including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and French President Emmanuel Macron. Wahome argued that such positions raised questions about his judgment and suitability for leadership.
“You cannot in one breath criticise global leaders and in the next claim you want to lead Kenyans to a better future,” she said, insisting that national leadership requires consistency, sobriety, and patriotism.
Wahome further maintained that attempts to politically weaken President Ruto’s administration would fail, stating that the Head of State remains focused on development, national unity, and strengthening Kenya’s international relations.
She added that “political tantrums” and personal attacks would not derail the government’s agenda, insisting that the country is on a steady path of progress under Ruto’s leadership.
