KNCCI, Guangzhou Seal Landmark Deal to Boost Kenya-China Trade
The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), led by President Dr. Erick Rutto, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a delegation from China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangzhou Committee (CCPIT Guangzhou), marking a major step toward deepening trade and investment cooperation between Kenya and Guangzhou.
The high-level meeting, chaired by CCPIT Guangzhou Vice President Huang Xiaofeng, focused on unlocking new opportunities for business partnerships and expanding economic ties between the two regions. Current trade between Kenya and Guangzhou stands at approximately Ksh3 billion, with both parties noting a significant 20 percent growth in trade volumes — a clear indication of the growing economic relationship and untapped potential.
During the discussions, both sides identified key sectors for collaboration, including plastics manufacturing, medical equipment, and agricultural exports such as coffee, tea, and avocado. KNCCI highlighted Kenya’s strategic position as East Africa’s leading business and logistics hub, offering investors direct access to regional markets and a conducive environment for trade, manufacturing, and industrial expansion.
A key highlight of the engagement was the presentation of the KNCCI Industrial Park project by Dr. Rutto. The ambitious initiative seeks strategic investors to establish an industrial park comprising 10 factories aimed at boosting local manufacturing, creating employment opportunities, and positioning Kenya as a regional industrial powerhouse.
Speaking during the meeting, KNCCI officials emphasized that stronger collaboration with Guangzhou could accelerate technology transfer, enhance value addition in agriculture, and support Kenya’s broader industrialization agenda.
The signing of the MOU is expected to pave the way for increased trade missions, investment opportunities, and long-term partnerships between businesses in Kenya and Guangzhou, further strengthening economic cooperation between the two regions.
