Section of Eldoret Road in Nairobi to Close for Four Months
A section of Kenya Urban Roads Authority road infrastructure along Eldoret Road in Nairobi will be closed for four months beginning May 18, 2026, to pave the way for the construction of a vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River.
In a public notice issued by the authority, the closure will take effect from 6 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, and remain in force until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026.
According to the notice, the project is aimed at improving urban mobility and easing traffic movement in the area once completed. Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes indicated in the traffic management plan and to follow directions issued by traffic police officers and road marshals stationed near the construction zone.
The authority noted that the temporary closure is necessary to allow contractors adequate space and time to undertake the bridge works safely and efficiently.
Residents, commuters, and businesses operating along the affected corridor are expected to experience traffic disruptions during the construction period. However, officials expressed confidence that the long-term benefits of the new bridge will outweigh the temporary inconvenience.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused as we endeavour to transform urban mobility,” the notice stated.
The project forms part of ongoing efforts by the roads authority to upgrade transport infrastructure within Nairobi and improve connectivity across key urban routes.
The notice was signed by Director General Eng. Silas Kinoti.
