Shock as Senator Maina Demands Answers Over Mysterious Deaths of Two Children in Kiama River

Authorities are under mounting pressure to unravel the circumstances surrounding the discovery of two unidentified children’s bodies in the Kiama River, as concerns grow over safety and possible foul play in the incident reported in Gatanga Constituency.

Veronica Maina has formally demanded urgent investigations, calling on the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations to provide a detailed update on the case, which first came to light on May 10, 2026.

According to preliminary reports cited in Parliament, the victims include a boy estimated to be about 14 years old, found without clothing, and a girl believed to be between five and nine years old. Their identities remain unknown, and the cause of death has not yet been established.

Senator Maina has questioned whether post-mortem examinations have been conducted and urged authorities to clarify the timeline leading up to the deaths. She also wants details on how the National Police Service is working to identify the children, including whether missing persons reports across Gatanga and neighbouring areas have been systematically reviewed.

Beyond the investigation, the Senator has raised concern about support mechanisms for families once identification is made, as well as psychological assistance for residents who discovered the bodies.

The incident has sparked unease among locals, with calls for faster action from security agencies as the investigation continues.

Police have not yet issued a conclusive statement on the cause of death or possible suspects, leaving the case open and under active investigation.
