Kenya, FAO Forge New Path to Boost Farmers’ Incomes and Food Security

Mutahi Kagwe has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector following high-level talks with senior officials from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations aimed at strengthening food systems and improving farmers’ livelihoods.

The meeting brought together FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Africa, Abebe Haile-Gabriel, alongside Farayi Zimudzi and Hamisi Williams, for discussions centered on policy reforms designed to increase farmers’ earnings and enhance agricultural productivity across the country.

Among the key issues discussed were livestock development, soil health improvement initiatives, agricultural traceability systems, and Kenya’s participation in major international food and agriculture engagements in Madrid and Rome.

CS Kagwe praised FAO for its continued partnership and support in advancing food security, sustainable agriculture, and economic empowerment for farming communities.

He noted that stronger collaboration between Kenya and FAO would play a critical role in building resilient agricultural systems capable of withstanding climate and market challenges while ensuring long-term food sustainability.

The engagement also highlighted a shared vision of creating modern, inclusive, and sustainable food systems that not only benefit Kenyan farmers but also strengthen regional agricultural development.
