Former Mathioya MP Arrested Over Sh6.4 Million Ngong Land Fraud

Former Mathioya Member of Parliament Francis Njakwe Githiari has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over an alleged Sh6.4 million land fraud linked to a disputed property in Ngong.

According to investigators from the DCI Headquarters Land Fraud Investigation Unit (LFIU), Githiari allegedly conned a couple after entering into an agreement to sell them a parcel of land and oversee the construction of a double-storey house on the property.

Detectives revealed that the former legislator presented himself not only as the land seller but also as the contractor tasked with developing the residence. The entire project was valued at Sh40 million, with payments to be made in instalments.

The couple reportedly paid Sh6.4 million as part of the initial agreement before suspicions emerged during routine visits to the construction site.

Sources familiar with the investigations said the buyers overheard claims that the ownership of the Ngong land was under dispute, with other individuals allegedly pursuing legal action to reclaim the property.

Alarmed by the revelations, the couple immediately suspended further payments and reported the matter to authorities, triggering a detailed investigation by the LFIU.

After reviewing the evidence, detectives concluded that the former MP had fraudulently obtained the funds from the complainants.

The case file was later submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved charges against Githiari for obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.

DCI officers arrested Githiari at his Karen residence on Wednesday. He is currently being processed ahead of his arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, May 15, 2026.

The DCI has urged members of the public to remain vigilant when engaging in land transactions and encouraged victims of fraud to report such incidents through its anonymous reporting channels under the #FichuaKwaDCI initiative.
