Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka today  flagged off youth mobilisation teams drawn from across Bungoma County to spearhead grassroots campaigns in support of President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.

Speaking during a meeting with youth representatives at Olukulu Resort in Webuye, Lusaka  who serves as the Western Region Presidential Re-Election Coordinator  said the groups would traverse villages and local grassroots units across the county to popularise the President’s development agenda and rally political support.

He urged the youth to remain issue-focused and objectively communicate the government’s achievements, describing them as central players in governance and national development.

“The youth remain the backbone of our nation’s leadership and governance structures. You are informed, vibrant and well positioned to articulate the President’s transformative agenda at the grassroots,” Lusaka said.

The governor cited key empowerment initiatives under the current administration, including the NYOTA programme and the Hustler Fund, saying the interventions had expanded access to credit, nurtured entrepreneurship and enhanced economic inclusion among young people.

According to Lusaka, Bungoma County has benefited from infrastructure investments and empowerment programmes rolled out during the President’s first term, expressing optimism that more opportunities would emerge if the Head of State secures a second term.

“In his first term, President Ruto has initiated numerous youth-focused programmes and development projects across the country. Bungoma has not been left behind, particularly in infrastructure and empowerment initiatives. With a second term, our youth stand to benefit even more,” he said.

He cautioned young leaders against engaging in divisive politics, goonism and intolerance, urging them instead to promote peaceful political engagement anchored on facts and development outcomes.

“Let us reject politics of violence and abuses. Instead, go out and sell the President’s scorecard objectively, based on facts and tangible development achievements,” Lusaka added.

Lusaka emphasised that young people are not merely leaders of tomorrow but leaders of today, calling for their inclusion in decision-making processes at all levels of leadership.

The meeting was attended by Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama and nominated Senator Conny Wakwabubi, among other leaders, who echoed calls for unity and issue-based politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
