Bloody Night in Eldoret: Former Uasin Gishu MCA Edwin Misoi Fights for His Life After Suspected Political Attack

Tension has gripped Eldoret after former Uasin Gishu Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Edwin Misoi was brutally assaulted in the Central Business District (CBD) on Friday night, leaving him hospitalized with serious injuries in what family and activists claim was a politically motivated attack.

Misoi is currently admitted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), where doctors say he sustained multiple injuries, including blunt head trauma and a fractured leg.

The shocking incident has sparked outrage across Kapseret Sub-County and the larger Uasin Gishu political landscape, with leaders calling for calm even as pressure mounts on security agencies to act swiftly.

Ambushed in the CBD

According to preliminary reports, Misoi was attacked at around 11:00 p.m. in Eldoret’s CBD by a group of individuals allegedly linked to a vocal Member of Parliament in Uasin Gishu County. Witnesses claim the assailants used crude weapons during the assault.

Sources close to the family allege that the attackers used an object embedded with nails, inflicting severe injuries before fleeing the scene. The motive of the attack has not been officially established, but those close to the former MCA believe it was politically instigated.

The assault occurred amid rising political temperatures in Kapseret Sub-County, where alignments and rivalries ahead of the 2027 General Election are increasingly becoming visible.

Rushed to MTRH in Critical Condition

Misoi was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital shortly before midnight.

Dr. Simuyu Taabu, Head of the Emergency Department, confirmed that the former MCA was received in critical condition.

“He arrived a few minutes to midnight, around 11:30 to 11:37 p.m., and was immediately taken to the acute emergency unit,” Dr. Taabu said.

Medical assessments revealed the extent of the injuries.

“He sustained blunt trauma to the head, chest and abdomen, as well as injuries to the left lower limb. CT scans and X-rays confirmed moderate head injuries and a fracture of the left lower limb bone. His condition is currently stable,” the doctor stated.

He further explained that a multidisciplinary team — including emergency physicians, general surgeons, and neurosurgeons — attended to him immediately.

“He remains under close monitoring in the acute emergency room and will later be transferred to the neurosurgical ward for further management,” Dr. Taabu added.

Hospital sources indicated that the next 48 hours would be critical in monitoring possible complications related to the head injury.

Family Cries Foul, Demands Justice

Speaking at the hospital, Misoi’s father, Wilson Korir, described the attack as an attempted assassination and urged authorities to bring those responsible to book.

“I received the report at around 6:00 a.m. He was beaten at around 11 p.m. with an object that had nails on it. When I saw him, he was in a very bad condition,” Korir said, visibly shaken.

Korir dismissed claims circulating in some quarters that the attack could have been linked to personal disputes or financial issues.

“If there were any debts, as a family we would have been ready to settle them. They should not beat or attempt to kill my son because of politics,” he said.

He revealed that Misoi had previously confided in the family about threats to his life due to his political stand in Kapseret.

“He told us he was being threatened because of his position. Now look at what has happened,” Korir added.

The family is now calling on both county and national security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended without delay.

Rights Activists Allege Pattern of Political Violence

Human rights activist Kimutai Kirui, who visited Misoi at the hospital, termed the incident part of a worrying trend of political intolerance in Kapseret Sub-County.

“This is not the first reported case of political goons attacking dissenting voices, especially in Kapseret,” Kirui said.

He alleged that organized groups of youths are being funded by politicians to intimidate rivals and silence critics.

“We have over 300 political goons in Eldoret who are being funded by politicians, some serving within the Uasin Gishu County Government,” he claimed.

Kirui also called for the immediate transfer of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Eldoret Central Police Station, accusing him of alleged political patronage and failure to curb insecurity.

He further alleged that a police vehicle was present during the assault but no arrests were made, though one motorbike was reportedly impounded.

“If the police are working closely with goons, will we still have a city?” he posed.

Kirui said the concerns had been escalated to the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner and urged the Inspector General of Police and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to intervene.

“Otherwise, we will hold peaceful demonstrations in Eldoret over the state of insecurity until action is taken,” he warned.

Political Leaders Urge Calm

The attack has drawn condemnation from several political leaders across Uasin Gishu County, who warned that escalating tensions could undermine peace ahead of the 2027 polls.

Kapseret parliamentary aspirant Emmanuel Kemboi called on police to fast-track investigations into all cases of political violence.

“The police must ensure that all perpetrators face the full force of the law. No one should take advantage of political competition to injure others,” he said.

Hon. Pauline Chelimo cautioned against the misuse of young people for violent political activities.

“We are asking leaders to desist from misusing our sons into acts of hooliganism. Those who attacked Hon. Edwin are well known. They are residents of Kapseret — we know their parents,” she said.

Chelimo emphasized that leadership contests should be decided at the ballot, not through intimidation.

“Residents of Kapseret and Uasin Gishu will ultimately decide their leaders. Let us allow peaceful political competition,” she added.

She further claimed that several aspirants and their supporters have faced threats over the past year for expressing divergent political views.

Police Assure Public of Neutrality

Turbo Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Simiyu confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

“We received the report and immediately dispatched officers to the scene to carry out investigations,” he said.

Simiyu reassured residents that police officers remain neutral and are committed to upholding the rule of law.

“We want to assure members of the public that the police are non-political. We will ensure that Hon. Edwin, who previously served as a youth representative in the Uasin Gishu County Assembly, gets justice,” he stated.

As of Saturday evening, no arrests had been announced.

Rising Political Temperatures

The attack has heightened anxiety in Eldoret and surrounding areas, reigniting debate over political intolerance and youth radicalization in Uasin Gishu County.

With the 2027 General Election still months away, observers warn that early signs of political aggression, if unchecked, could escalate into wider instability.

For now, all eyes remain on investigators — and on the recovery of Edwin Misoi — as residents await answers and justice in a case that has shaken the county’s political landscape.
