Millie Odhiambo Raises Questions Over Salah’s Links to Raila Odinga

Mbita Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has weighed in on reports suggesting that Salah Mohamed was closely associated with veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, saying the relationship, if true, raises important political questions.

Speaking on the matter, Odhiambo said closeness to Raila Odinga has historically carried political significance and often acts as a litmus test within Kenya’s political landscape, particularly in Nyanza.

“If it is true that Salah was very close to Baba Raila, then the country must ask what that means going forward,” Odhiambo said. “Association with Baba has never been accidental. It has always been about values, ideology and the struggle for justice.”

However, the Mbita MP cautioned against assuming that personal relationships could automatically resolve systemic challenges facing the country, including the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the Social Health Authority (SHA).

“These are national systems that require policy direction and political will,” she said. “They cannot be fixed by individuals or proximity to any leader.”

Odhiambo also addressed speculation about Raila Odinga’s future role in national politics, noting that the former prime minister’s influence has remained visible even during periods when he has stepped back from the public spotlight.

“Baba has never truly left,” she said. “His presence is felt in national conversations, dialogue processes and the conscience of the nation.”

On political alliances, Odhiambo said those associated with Odinga should be free to choose their paths, arguing that unity cannot be forced.

“If I were in such a position, I would quietly work with those who wish to continue associating and allow those who do not to walk their own journey,” she said.

The MP also raised curiosity about Salah Mohamed’s background, recalling that there was a Sala Mohamed who attended Homabay Primary School many years ago before moving to Migori. She noted that while no link has been established, the recollection has sparked local interest.

“Sometimes history gives us clues about people long before they enter public life,” Odhiambo said.

As political realignments continue to take shape, Odhiambo said the focus should remain on values, clarity of purpose and service to the people rather than personalities alone.
