In a remarkable display of endurance, resilience, and community spirit, Stephen K. Tanui, Chairman of the Kenya Youth Organisation, has successfully broken the 86-hour tree-hugging record in Ziwa, Soy Constituency, Uasin Gishu County. The record attempt, which drew widespread attention from residents and local authorities alike, was a test of both physical stamina and mental fortitude. Tanui credited his achievement to divine protection and the steadfast support of friends, well-wishers, and community members who checked on him hour after hour throughout the challenge.

“I could not have managed alone without your kind support through prayers, visits, and encouragement every single hour,” Tanui said, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ziwa, Ziwa Hospital, Ziwa Police Station, Team Chepkumiat, and the Ziwa Administration through the Chief’s office. “Kongoi missing eng biik ab Ziwa. I’ll come back there soon,” he added, acknowledging the warmth and solidarity of the local community.

Beyond the physical feat, Tanui used the occasion to advance a message of national importance. Speaking passionately to supporters, he reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a united and empowered generation of young Kenyans. He stressed the need to end tribalism and promote equality, envisioning a “One Kenya” where opportunities are available to all regardless of background. On healthcare, Tanui emphasized completing the Ziwa Level 5 Hospital project and ensuring citizens are registered under the Social Health Assurance (SHA) program, reflecting his belief that access to quality healthcare is a cornerstone of national development.

Environmental conservation and climate action were also central themes of Tanui’s address. He encouraged youth-led initiatives to protect Kenya’s forests, rivers, and natural resources, highlighting the importance of a greener, sustainable future for all. Additionally, he reiterated his focus on nurturing ethical and capable leaders through youth mentorship programs, aiming to equip the next generation with the skills and values necessary for effective leadership. Tanui also highlighted the often-overlooked challenges facing boys in education and social development, calling for greater attention to mentorship, schooling, and overall well-being of the boy child.

“The future is youth. The time is now,” Tanui declared, urging communities, government stakeholders, and young people to work together to build a stronger, healthier, and more united Kenya. His record-breaking feat, combined with his advocacy for social and environmental causes, has cemented his position as a dynamic and committed leader for Kenya’s youth.
