Human Rights Activist Calls for DCI Scrutiny of Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua
An Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has called upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to urgently monitor the activities of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, citing a troubling pattern of violence allegedly linked to church functions where the former deputy president has been present.
According to the Ngetich, several recent incidents of violence have occurred exclusively at church venues associated with Mr. Gachagua’s political activities, a trend he argues is neither coincidental nor spontaneous. He is calling for heightened scrutiny not only of the former deputy president but also of church leaders who host or associate with his political engagements.
“It raises serious concerns that Mr. Gachagua continues to hold rallies, issue inflammatory statements, and openly insult the Head of State, other leaders, and entire communities using highly provocative language—yet no direct attacks are ever directed at him,” the activist said. “This suggests careful orchestration rather than random unrest.”
Ngetich further questioned the circumstances surrounding incidents involving vandalized vehicles, noting that no videos were recorded during the acts and that the manner in which the destruction was carried out raises suspicion.
He alleged that Mr. Gachagua is deliberately attempting to portray himself as a persecuted opposition figure similar to Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine, whom he described as a true freedom fighter and a respected son of Africa. He warned that such comparisons are misleading and aimed at attracting international attention and sympathy under the pretext that Mr. Gachagua’s life is in danger.
The activist also revisited a past incident involving the alleged abduction of a Member of Parliament, which he claims investigations later proved to be staged. He warned that the former deputy president may be testing the waters for further planned and sponsored violence designed to destabilize the country and undermine the Government of Kenya.
“Kenya is a democratic society, and the government of His Excellency President William Ruto continues to uphold the rule of law, as evidenced by the freedoms and rights Kenyans enjoy compared to many neighboring countries,” he said.
He further alleged that Mr. Gachagua may be mobilizing unemployed youth and former security officers dismissed for criminal conduct, creating video content intended to solicit foreign funding while damaging Kenya’s international image. He also linked the former deputy president to alleged financing and strategic involvement in the Gen Z protests.
The activist called on state security agencies to closely monitor Mr. Gachagua’s activities both locally and internationally, warning that failure to act could place national stability at risk.
He urged religious leaders to refrain from allowing churches to be used as platforms for political schemes that could incite conflict between the church and the state.
“The former deputy president must not be allowed to terrorize the country to advance selfish political ambitions,” he said. “Church leaders must safeguard the sanctity of worship and refuse to be conduits for division.”
