Transforming Lives Through Housing: Wote Pool Project Showcases President Ruto’s Vision for Inclusive Development
In the three years that H.E. President William Samoei Ruto has been in office, no part of Kenya has been left untouched by the wave of progress—both in transformative policy implementation and in visible, life-changing infrastructure projects.
One of the most striking examples of this transformative journey is the Wote Pool Affordable Housing Project in Makueni County—a development that embodies the spirit of inclusive growth and shared prosperity under the Government’s Affordable Housing Programme.
Commenced in July 2024, the project features eight modern residential blocks comprising 775 housing units across affordable, social, and market categories. The unit mix—ranging from three-bedroom, two-bedroom, and one-bedroom apartments to studio units—ensures that every family, worker, and young professional can find a place to call home.
Beyond housing, the development integrates amenities that enhance quality of life, including a shopping centre with 65 commercial stalls, a clubhouse, a community centre, a kindergarten, and children’s play areas, all within a secure compound complete with a boundary wall, gatehouse, borehole, and waste management systems.
Currently at 48% completion, with Blocks B and C already shaping the Wote skyline, the project site is buzzing with purpose and progress. Over 280 workers are directly employed, a powerful demonstration of how government-led projects create real jobs and livelihoods for Kenyans.
The ripple effects extend far beyond the site—stimulating local enterprises in steel fixing, door and window fabrication, plastering, and walling, while energizing nearby suppliers, transporters, and service providers.
As Wote continues to thrive as the vibrant capital of Makueni County—and true to the meaning of “Wote,” all of us—this project stands as a living testament to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA): a Kenya where development truly includes everyone.
Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga has been at the forefront of driving the Affordable Housing Programme, ensuring that the dream of decent, affordable homes becomes a reality for millions of Kenyans while bridging the housing gap that has long existed.
