Rising Star Maru: Aiming for the Premier League and to Represent Kenya

At just 16 years old, Branson Maru is already making waves in Kenya’s football scene. Born on August 12th, 2009, Maru is a young talent with a clear vision: to play in the English Premier League (EPL) and proudly wear the Kenyan national team jersey.

Maru’s football journey began in 2016 after moving to Nairobi, where his passion for the game quickly took root. Since then, he has worked tirelessly to develop his skills, earning a spot in the Kenya Regional League and joining the True Talents of Africa program — a platform known for nurturing promising young players across the continent.

“My dream is to go professional and one day play in the Premier League,” says Maru. “But right now, my immediate goal is to earn a trial with the Under-17 national team. Representing my country would be a huge honor.”

Despite his growing reputation, Maru remains grounded and focused. He acknowledges that success doesn’t come overnight and that the road to professional football is long and demanding. “I believe I have the talent, but I also know I’m not there yet,” he admits. “That’s why I’m committed to working hard every day to improve.”

Behind Maru’s success is a strong support system. He credits his parents, relatives, friends, and coaches for believing in him and helping him stay motivated. “My parents are my biggest champions,” he says with gratitude. “Their encouragement, along with my coaches’ mentorship, has played a huge role in shaping me both as a player and as a person.”

Maru also has a heartfelt message for Kenyan parents: to support their children’s passions. “Many young players in Kenya have the potential to become great, but they lack support,” he explains. “If parents believe in their children’s dreams and give them the chance to pursue them, I’m sure we’ll see more Kenyan stars on the world stage.”

As he continues balancing school and football, Maru remains optimistic and determined. “I want to make my coaches and parents proud,” he says. “This is just the beginning, and I’m excited for what the future holds.”
