Over 900 Residents Benefit from Free Medical Camp in Mudslide-Hit Area — Governor Wisly Rotich
More than 900 residents affected by recent mudslides in Elgeyo Marakwet County received free medical care during a successful medical outreach camp held at St. Mauras Primary School, Governor Wisly Rotich has announced.
In a statement on Saturday, Governor Rotich lauded the Department of Health for what he described as an extraordinary act of service and compassion toward vulnerable families who were still reeling from the effects of the disaster.
“The free medical camp at St. Mauras Primary School was a huge success, with our medical staff attending to over 900 people,” Governor Rotich said. “A huge thank you to our selfless Department of Health team for their incredible service to the community affected by the mudslides.”
The one-day exercise brought together doctors, nurses, clinical officers, and public health practitioners who offered a range of services including general check-ups, treatment of injuries, maternal and child health services, disease screening, and psychosocial support to victims traumatized by the mudslides.
Governor Rotich said the initiative was part of the county’s rapid response and recovery efforts aimed at restoring the health and dignity of affected residents.
“We remain committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in our recovery programs. Health and wellness are central to rebuilding our communities,” he emphasized.
He also thanked partners, volunteers, and local leaders who helped mobilize residents for the exercise, noting that such partnerships were key in responding to emergencies and strengthening community resilience.
The Governor assured that follow-up medical and public health interventions would continue in the coming weeks, particularly in the hardest-hit areas, to prevent outbreaks of waterborne and respiratory diseases.
“Our healthcare workers have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Their dedication to serve under difficult conditions shows the true spirit of Elgeyo Marakwet — unity, compassion, and resilience,” Governor Rotich added.
