Hon. Jackson Kiptanui Mourns Victims of Devastating Chesongoch Landslide, Calls for Urgent Action

 

 Hon. Jackson Kiptanui expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the community of Chesongoch today as families laid to rest loved ones who tragically lost their lives in a landslide that struck parts of Elgeyo Marakwet County.

In a heartfelt message, Hon. Kiptanui reminded Kenyans that, despite the pain and grief, faith in God remains a source of consolation. “Our God remains God; unshaken, unchanging, and ever faithful, no matter the circumstances we face. Even in moments of deep sorrow and overwhelming challenge, such as what we have experienced today in Chesongoch, He is still on the throne,” he said.

The lawmaker stood alongside fellow leaders and the bereaved families during the solemn burial ceremony, emphasizing the depth of the tragedy and the collective grief of the community. “The pain is real, and the loss feels unbearable, especially for the families directly affected. My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies are with the grieving families and the entire Chesongoch community as you navigate the pain of this heartbreaking tragedy. No words can fully capture the weight of your loss, but please know that you are not walking this journey alone,” Hon. Kiptanui stated.

He also called for urgent, coordinated action to prevent future disasters in the Kerio Valley escarpment, urging leaders, clergy, professionals, and stakeholders to collaborate in finding lasting solutions to recurrent landslides. “We cannot continue to lose precious lives, homes, and livelihoods to disasters that we have the power to mitigate. The time for coordinated, decisive, and informed action is now,” he stressed.

Hon. Kiptanui concluded by praying for divine comfort and guidance. “May the Almighty God grant comfort and healing to every affected family. And may He guide us in our collective responsibility to safeguard our people, restore dignity, and rebuild hope for this community and generations to come.”
