First Lady Rachel Ruto Visits MTRH, Consoles Chesongoch Mudslide Survivors

First Lady Her Excellency Rachel Ruto on Monday paid a visit to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret to comfort survivors of the recent Chesongoch mudslide tragedy in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The First Lady was received by MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Philip Kirwa and senior members of the hospital staff. During her visit, Mrs. Ruto met with patients receiving treatment following the devastating mudslide, which claimed several lives and displaced dozens of residents.

Conveying her heartfelt sympathies, the First Lady expressed solidarity with the victims and their families, assuring them of continued government and community support during the recovery period.

“We stand with the people of Chesongoch during this difficult time. As a nation, we must continue to extend love, comfort, and assistance to those affected as they rebuild their lives,” she said.

Following her visit to the survivors’ wards, Mrs. Ruto proceeded to the Riley Mother and Baby Hospital, a specialized unit within MTRH, where she interacted with mothers, caregivers, and newborns. She encouraged the mothers and lauded the hospital staff for their dedication to saving lives and improving maternal and child health outcomes.

Reaffirming her commitment to maternal and child health, the First Lady highlighted the importance of continued investment in healthcare systems to ensure quality care for all Kenyan families.

“Healthy mothers and children are the foundation of a healthy nation. We will continue to support initiatives that enhance access to quality maternal and newborn healthcare,” she added.

The visit was part of the First Lady’s broader agenda to promote compassion, community support, and improved health services across the country.
