By Wasike Elvis
Eldoret Beauty College held its second graduation ceremony today, marking a major milestone in its journey of transforming the lives of young people through vocational training in beauty therapy and cosmetology. A total of 100 students, who have completed their studies in beauty therapy, were celebrated for their hard work, determination, and commitment to excellence. The ceremony, attended by a large crowd including dignitaries, local leaders, families, and media representatives, highlighted the growing importance of vocational training and the promising opportunities in the beauty industry, not only in Uasin Gishu County but across Kenya.
Held at the college’s main campus in Eldoret, the event was a moment of reflection, pride, and joy for the graduates, who were awarded certificates in beauty therapy and cosmetology after successfully completing their training. The ceremony also served as a powerful reminder of how education and skill development can empower individuals, contribute to local economies, and foster a new generation of entrepreneurs who can drive growth in diverse sectors.
A Celebration of Excellence and Hard Work
The day began with a sense of excitement and anticipation, as family members, friends, and fellow students gathered to celebrate the success of the graduates. Principal John Mwangi, who is also the Director of Eldoret Beauty College, expressed his immense pride in the achievements of the students and the continued growth of the institution.
“Today, we celebrate not just the end of an academic journey, but the beginning of a new chapter for each of you,” Mwangi said in his speech. “You have all worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone, and today, as you walk across this stage, you are stepping into the future—equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in the beauty industry.”
He acknowledged the role of the college's dedicated faculty and staff, who have played a crucial part in shaping the students' skills and professional attitudes. "Our commitment at Eldoret Beauty College is to provide a nurturing and challenging environment where students can develop practical skills and acquire the knowledge needed to succeed. We believe that education should not only be theoretical but also hands-on, preparing students for the real world."
Principal's Message to Graduates
In a heartfelt message to the graduates, Mwangi emphasized the importance of professionalism, creativity, and ethics in the beauty industry. “Today, you are joining a sector that continues to evolve at an astonishing pace. The beauty industry is no longer just about cosmetics and hair styling; it is about confidence, empowerment, and making people feel good about themselves,” he said.
He further spoke about the importance of maintaining integrity in their careers and staying dedicated to lifelong learning. “As you enter the workforce, remember that beauty is not just about outward appearances. It’s about the inner strength and confidence you help others discover. Your ability to innovate, provide excellent service, and work with integrity will set you apart and open doors to many opportunities.”
Mwangi also urged the graduates to continue developing their skills and to keep up with industry trends. “The beauty industry is dynamic and fast-paced. Success in this field requires not only skill but also consistency, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. I encourage you to continue learning, exploring new ideas, and pushing boundaries,” he said.
Director’s Keynote Address: John Mwangi
As the keynote speaker, Mwangi took the opportunity to reflect on the journey of Eldoret Beauty College, from its inception to the present day. “When Eldoret Beauty College first opened its doors, our vision was simple yet ambitious: to transform passion into purpose, talent into enterprise, and education into opportunities,” he said. “I am thrilled to see that today, our graduates are equipped with the skills not just to survive, but to thrive, in an industry that is both rewarding and impactful.”
He spoke candidly about the changing perceptions of the beauty industry, acknowledging that there was once a stigma attached to careers in beauty therapy. “There was a time when people looked at beauty therapy as something for those who failed academically or couldn't find traditional office jobs. But that narrative is changing. Today, many of our graduates are highly educated, with some even going on to pursue higher education and university degrees. The beauty industry is no longer seen as a fallback career—it's a respected profession with immense potential,” he said, urging the graduates to carry this new perspective into the world and challenge old stereotypes.
Mwangi concluded by encouraging the graduates to take ownership of their careers and use their skills to create positive change in their communities. "Beauty therapy is not just about appearance—it’s about empowering people. As you embark on this new journey, remember that your work can change lives. It can make people feel confident, beautiful, and valued. This profession is not only about what you can do for others, but also about how you use your talents to enrich your own life," he said.
Encouragement from Local Leaders
Kimani Wanjohi, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Huruma Ward, also addressed the graduates, offering words of encouragement and highlighting the importance of embracing new career paths. Wanjohi spoke passionately about the rapidly changing job market and how vocational careers, such as beauty therapy, are more relevant than ever. “We are living in an age where opportunities in traditional white-collar jobs are limited, and the job market is more competitive than ever,” Wanjohi said. "But the beauty industry is booming. It’s an area where creativity, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit can lead to success. I urge you to take pride in your achievements and to pursue your passion with the same energy and commitment you have shown throughout your studies."
Wanjohi also encouraged young people, especially those uncertain about their career paths, to consider vocational training as a legitimate and valuable career option. “Don’t let anyone tell you that you need to work in an office job to be successful. Beauty therapy, and other vocational careers, offer tremendous opportunities. You can create your own job and make a living by doing something you love,” he added.
Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea’s Remarks
Evans Kapkea, the Deputy Governor of Uasin Gishu County, also attended the ceremony and expressed the county’s continued support for vocational education. He praised Eldoret Beauty College for its role in equipping young people with valuable skills that contribute to the local economy and the broader development goals of the county. "Eldoret Beauty College is doing an incredible job of helping our youth gain the skills needed for success in the modern workforce," Kapkea said. "The county government is fully committed to supporting institutions like this, which provide opportunities for young people to thrive and become self-reliant."
Kapkea also highlighted Uasin Gishu County’s broader investment in vocational training and the role it plays in economic development. “In Uasin Gishu, we have 13 vocational colleges, many of which have become Centers of Excellence in specific fields. This reflects our commitment to providing quality education and training for our youth. Beauty therapy is an area of great potential, and we are proud to support it,” he said.
Expanding Opportunities in the Beauty Industry
As Eldoret continues to grow, the beauty industry is also experiencing significant expansion. New beauty parlors, salons, spas, and wellness centers are opening across the town and in surrounding areas, creating a demand for skilled professionals. Kapkea noted that the beauty industry not only provides direct employment opportunities but also supports related sectors such as hospitality and event management. "The demand for skilled beauty professionals is increasing, and with it comes opportunities for entrepreneurship and career growth. Whether you are working in beauty or hospitality, there are plenty of opportunities here in Eldoret,” he said.
The Graduates’ Journeys and Future Aspirations
The graduates shared their personal stories, many of them expressing gratitude for the opportunity to study at Eldoret Beauty College and for the skills they had gained.
