Deputy Governor Leads Multi-Agency Team to Contain Latex Spill at Chirchir Bridge

Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea on Friday spearheaded a multi-agency emergency response at Chirchir Bridge in Tarakwa Ward, Kesses Sub-County, following an accident involving a truck carrying natural latex rubber.

The truck spilled its load along the Chirchir–Bindura–Kesses Dam stream, prompting urgent intervention to prevent environmental damage and protect public health.

A coordinated team from the County Government, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the Kenya Police Service, public health officials, and county disaster management units quickly mobilized to contain the spillage. Measures included covering the latex material to stop it from spreading further into the waterway.

Speaking at the scene, Deputy Governor Kapkea assured residents that the situation was under close surveillance. He emphasized that the multi-agency response was fully engaged in assessing the spill’s impact and implementing mitigation measures.

“Our priority is the safety of our people and the protection of the environment. The multi-agency team is working together to ensure the spillage is contained and that all necessary protocols are followed,” Kapkea said.

Residents were urged to avoid contact with the affected area while authorities continued with clean-up and environmental assessments.
