The Eldoret National Polytechnic Shines Beyond Borders: Crowned Africa’s Best Polytechnic in Environmental Impact

The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence, earning the coveted title of Best Polytechnic in Africa on Environmental Impact. The recognition was conferred through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Awards in partnership with the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI).

This continental recognition comes shortly after TENP was ranked the Best Polytechnic in Kenya, affirming its leadership in technical and vocational education as well as its dedication to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Under the visionary leadership of Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech, OGW, TENP has positioned itself as a model institution driving sustainability, innovation, and responsible learning. The award acknowledges the institution’s transformative efforts in embedding sustainability principles within its academic and community engagement programs.

In addition to the institutional achievement, individual excellence from TENP also stood out during the awards. Mr. Jonathan Ngenoh was named Best ESD Teacher of the Year, recognizing his outstanding role in promoting sustainability education, while Walter Kiptoo, a trainee at TENP, received the honor of Best ESD Fellow of the Year for his exemplary contributions to community-based sustainability initiatives.

Adding to the institution’s growing list of accolades, Bilha Kalumba, a dedicated trainee from TENP, successfully graduated from the Online Diploma in Leadership and Development (LADA) offered by Africa for SDGs, further showcasing the polytechnic’s commitment to nurturing globally competent and socially responsible graduates.

Speaking during the award ceremony, Dr. Koech lauded the collective effort of staff and students in advancing the institution’s sustainability agenda.

“This recognition is a reflection of our shared vision to produce not just skilled professionals, but responsible global citizens who can lead change in their communities and beyond,” he said.

With this latest milestone, The Eldoret National Polytechnic continues to set the pace in environmental stewardship, technical innovation, and education for sustainable development—flying Kenya’s flag high on the continental stage.
