Police Seize 40kg of Cannabis in Luanda, Vihiga County


Police officers in Luanda, Vihiga County, have intercepted a major cannabis haul during an operation conducted on August 5, 2025.

According to authorities, the operation followed a tip-off from residents who reported suspicious cartons abandoned by an unknown motorcycle rider in Emabungo Location. Upon arrival, officers inspected the boxes and discovered 16 bales of suspected Cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 40 kilograms.

The narcotics were immediately confiscated and taken as exhibits. Investigations are underway to trace the motorcycle rider believed to be behind the abandoned consignment.

The National Police Service has assured the public of its unwavering commitment to fighting drug trafficking and the sale of illicit brews across the country.

“We commend members of the public for promptly sharing information. Our officers remain vigilant and dedicated to eradicating illegal drug trade that threatens the wellbeing of our communities,” a police statement read.

Police have intensified surveillance and anti-narcotics operations in the region as part of a wider crackdown on drug networks.
