Kilifi Deputy Governor Celebrates Academic Excellence at Pwani University’s 13th Graduation Ceremony
Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule joined hundreds of proud families, faculty, and government officials at the 13th Graduation Ceremony of Pwani University, a landmark event celebrating academic achievement and innovation. The event, held at the university's main campus in Kilifi, saw 2,327 graduates conferred with degrees, diplomas, and certificates in various disciplines.
The ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat, the Principal Secretary for Science, Research, and Innovation, and Hon. Fikirini Jacobs, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Youth Affairs & Creative Economy. Their presence underscored the national government’s commitment to youth development and educational advancement.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor Chibule congratulated the graduates, commending their resilience and determination in achieving this significant milestone.
“This graduation marks not only the end of an academic journey but the beginning of a new chapter filled with promise. The theme, ‘Transforming Education for Global Excellence,’ resonates deeply with our vision in Kilifi County—to nurture an empowered, skilled, and globally competitive society,” she said.
Chibule reaffirmed Kilifi County Government's dedication to education and youth empowerment, emphasizing ongoing efforts to align with institutions like Pwani University to equip young professionals with practical skills and opportunities.
“We remain steadfast in strengthening our collaboration with Pwani University to create meaningful opportunities across all county departments. By investing in education, we are investing in the future of Kilifi,” she added.
Prof. Shaukat, in his address, urged graduates to become ambassadors of innovation and research in their respective fields, while Hon. Jacobs emphasized the role of the creative economy in shaping a sustainable future for Kenya’s youth.
Pwani University Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohamed Rajab expressed pride in the institution’s growth and its role in transforming higher education in the coastal region.
The graduation was marked by cultural performances, academic fanfare, and emotional moments as students, many being the first in their families to attain higher education, celebrated with loved ones.
