Nandi Women Representative Mourns Passing of Hon. Elijah Kiptarbei Lagat

With profound sorrow and a heavy heart, Nandi Women Representative Cynthia Muge has mourned the passing of Hon. Elijah Kiptarbei Lagat, who died this morning in a hospital in Eldoret.

Hon. Lagat was more than a public servant; he was a beacon of inspiration and resilience to the people of Nandi County and Kenya at large. Known widely as a Boston Marathon champion, Elijah Lagat’s athletic career was marked by determination and a fierce spirit that transcended sport. He later transitioned into politics with the same zeal, representing Emgwen and Chesumei constituencies with passion and dedication.

“His loss is a heavy blow, not just to Nandi but to the entire nation. Elijah was a true hero—a champion on the track and a servant in the community,” said Cynthia Muge in her tribute. “His journey from a late-start runner to a national icon showed us the power of grit and a deep love for community.”

Beyond his athletic and political accomplishments, Hon. Lagat was a steadfast advocate for youth empowerment, especially through his impactful work with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA). His leadership in this arena touched countless lives and reinforced his commitment to creating a better future for Kenya’s youth.

“To his family, friends, and all who knew him, I extend my deepest condolences,” Muge added. “May God surround you with comfort and grant you strength in this time of grief. Mheshimiwa’s legacy, his victories, his service, and his warmth will live on in every life he touched.”

As Nandi County and the nation bid farewell to one of their most beloved sons, the spirit of Hon. Elijah Kiptarbei Lagat remains an enduring testament to resilience, service, and love for community.
