BREAKING: Wicknell Chivayo Reportedly Killed in Zimbabwe Helicopter Crash

 

Zimbabwean millionaire businessman Wicknell Chivayo is reportedly among those killed in a helicopter crash in Marondera, with his wife Lucy “Lulu” Muteke also reported to be among the victims.

The crash occurred in the Marondera Rural area at around 5pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). Police initially said the aircraft had six occupants and that emergency teams were responding to the scene.

The Zimbabwean Government later confirmed that the helicopter crash was fatal and that there were no survivors. Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana said the aircraft was carrying a high-profile businessman, passengers and two pilots.

However, there is a discrepancy in the number of people aboard. While the initial police statement indicated six occupants, the government account reported seven people—a high-profile businessman, four passengers and two pilots. Authorities had not immediately explained the difference.

Reports by Zimbabwean media outlets, including ZimLive, have identified Chivayo as the high-profile businessman believed to have been on board, while his wife Lucy Muteke has also been named among the victims. The government, however, had not yet officially released the names of the deceased at the time of reporting.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, with investigations expected to establish what happened. Zimbabwe's Aircraft Accident and Incidents Investigation Department is responsible for investigating aircraft accidents and determining their causes and contributing factors.
