Talent Meets Healthcare: Uasin Gishu Hosts Sakaja in Youth Empowerment Extravaganza

 


Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to advancing quality healthcare, especially for young people. 


Speaking during the free medical camp and GOT talent event ,Dr Bii said“Under my Nguzo Kumi development blueprint, the youth are at the heart of our policies. We are intentionally building systems that support both their health and talents,” Governor Bii stated. He emphasized that his government is creating an enabling environment where youth can thrive both physically and economically.


The Governor further reaffirmed his administration's commitment to creating inclusive platforms where young people can express their creativity and access key services like health and education.


Nairobi Governor Hon. Johnson Sakaja has called upon members of the public to enrol with the Social Health Authority to secure access to affordable and quality healthcare. Speaking during a free medical camp and youth talent event organized for students in colleges, TVETs, and universities in Eldoret, the Governor emphasized the importance of proactive health coverage.


 “Healthcare is not a luxury,it is a basic need. I urge all Kenyans, especially our youth, to register with the Social Health Authority so that we are not caught unprepared,” Sakaja said.


In his speech, Governor Sakaja encouraged the youth never to underestimate their humble beginnings, noting that growth and success are progressive. 


“Every great journey begins with a single step. Whether it is in arts, education, or entrepreneurship, your background should never limit your dreams,” he remarked. 


County Executive for Health Services, Eng. Joseph Lagat, alongside his Education counterpart Eng. Lucy Ngendo, disclosed that over 1,000 youth were screened during the free medical camp. He praised the initiative as a model for integrated service delivery and youth engagement. “This event demonstrates how we can combine health services with talent development to reach and empower our young population,” Eng. Lagat said.


Eng. Ngendo noted that Uasin Gishu is rich in untapped youth potential and called for more structured efforts to harness their talents. “Our county is a talent-rich zone and through interdepartmental collaborations like today’s event, we aim to ensure no talent goes unnoticed,” she said adding that education goes hand-in-hand with holistic wellness, and thus medical support initiatives are integral in keeping learners productive.


Chief Officer for  Preventive  and Promotive Health Dr Paul Wangwe reiterated Governor Bii’s deep commitment to the well-being of the youth, highlighting that his administration is deliberate in strengthening the Nguzo Kumi pillars. “We are not just treating illnesses, we are building a healthy, talented, and empowered generation and supporting youth talent is part of promoting their mental and social well-being,” the Chief Officer explained.


The day-long event combined entertainment, medical screening, and mentorship activities, attracting hundreds of students from different institutions therefore the initiative stood as a testament to how health, education, and youth empowerment can effectively intersect to drive community growth and sustainability.


Present were Legal Advisor ,Chief of Staff Dr Pius Chumba,Chief Officers Ruth Samoei (Public Service Management) and CPA Victorine Kapkia (Sports).
