Senator Omtatah Demands DCI Boss Arrested Over Mysterious Death of Blogger Albert Ojwang

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has called for the immediate arrest and resignation of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief, Mohamed Amin, following growing concerns over the suspicious death of blogger Albert Ojwang.

Speaking on Sunday, Omtatah accused the DCI of misleading the public and attempting to cover up Ojwang’s death, citing newly released CCTV footage that contradicts official police statements.

According to the footage aired by Citizen TV, Ojwang was seen arriving at Mbagathi Hospital at 1:35am, already unresponsive. However, the DCI had earlier reported that Ojwang was still in custody at Nairobi’s Central Police Station at that exact time.

“At 1:35am, CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital confirmed Albert Ojwang was already dead,” Omtatah said. “Yet DCI Boss Mohamed Amin claimed he was in a police cell at that exact time. We demand the immediate arrest of all officers involved. And yes, DCI Director Mohamed Amin must go.”

Omtatah further alleged that Ojwang’s death was not accidental, but a premeditated act, orchestrated and later concealed by law enforcement officers. He pointed to false police reports, tampered medical documents, and deliberate attempts to erase key surveillance footage as signs of an institutional cover-up.

“Who ordered this? Who covers up these killings? How many more must die before something changes?” the senator asked. “Albert Ojwang’s blood cries out for justice. And this time, we will not back down.”

The case has sparked national outrage, with Kenyans demanding transparency and accountability from the police. Calls have also been made for the resignation of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, who reportedly ordered Ojwang’s arrest.

Further complicating the matter, a technician who installed the Central Police Station’s CCTV system in 2024 was arrested last week. The suspect is believed to have been summoned to the station on June 8 — days after Ojwang’s death — and allegedly instructed to delete footage from the night in question.

This new evidence, combined with conflicting official narratives, has intensified public pressure on the government to act. Investigations are ongoing, and civil society groups are now pushing for an independent inquiry into the incident.

As outrage grows, Senator Omtatah has vowed not to let the matter fade away.

“You don’t lie to a nation and walk free,” he said. “The truth must come out — and justice must be served.”
