Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, on Monday afternoon hosted Siaya Governor James Orengo for a courtesy call, during which the two leaders held discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between the National Government and the County Government of Siaya.
The meeting focused on aligning efforts to improve security and public service delivery, with both leaders acknowledging that closer collaboration is essential to achieving lasting impact in communities.
“We discussed modalities to deepen cooperation between our Ministry and the County Government of Siaya to enhance security and service delivery,” said CS Murkomen. “Closer collaboration between the National and County Governments is key to addressing the security and development challenges effectively.”
The talks come at a time when several counties, including Siaya, are grappling with complex security concerns ranging from border disputes to rising crime and youth unemployment. Governor Orengo emphasized the need for shared responsibility in strengthening institutions and improving coordination between national security organs and devolved units.
The Interior Ministry has committed to supporting county governments in addressing localized threats through community policing, improved intelligence sharing, and joint development programs aimed at tackling root causes of insecurity.
The visit underscores ongoing efforts by the national administration to build stronger partnerships with county governments to deliver on President William Ruto’s agenda of a secure, united, and prosperous Kenya. Further engagements between the two levels of government are expected in the coming weeks to operationalize some of the agreed initiatives.
