A wave of shock and spiritual unrest has swept through the congregation of Pastor Ezekiel Odero after a break-in at his church late Monday night led to the theft of a sacred covenant box believed to hold deep spiritual significance.
Church officials reported the theft early Tuesday morning after staff discovered signs of forced entry. According to preliminary reports, the intruders bypassed the main entrance, gaining access through a back window and disabling part of the church's security system. The thieves proceeded to the inner sanctuary, where the sacred box was stored.
“This is not just theft,” Pastor Ezekiel said during a somber press briefing outside the church. “This was a direct attack on the presence of God in our ministry. The covenant box is not just a symbol—it is a vessel of divine connection and prayer.”
While the exact contents of the stolen box have not been publicly disclosed, members of the New Life Prayer Centre and Church believe it held handwritten prayer scrolls, anointing oil, and consecrated relics used during overnight vigils. The box was also believed by many in the congregation to be spiritually protected, which has fueled both fear and speculation about possible consequences for the perpetrators.
The theft has been described by church leaders as a desecration of a holy space, prompting an outpouring of emotion and urgent calls for spiritual intervention. An emergency prayer session drew large crowds Tuesday morning, with worshippers praying for the return of the covenant box and for justice to prevail.
“We will not be shaken,” Pastor Ezekiel told the gathered faithful. “Let the ones who did this know—you can steal from man, but you cannot hide from God.”
Local police have launched a full investigation. A special task force has been assigned to the case due to its sensitive nature, and security footage from nearby businesses is currently under review. As of this morning, no arrests have been made.
