PS Njogu Inspires New Diplomats to Champion Kenya’s Global Future

By John Kariuki

Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu has hailed newly inducted Foreign Service Cadets as the cornerstone of Kenya’s future diplomacy, urging them to embrace innovation, technology and patriotism as they step into their roles as envoys of the nation.

Speaking during the opening session of the induction program for cadets deployed to the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, PS Njogu emphasized that the success of Kenya’s foreign policy depends on the energy, creativity and commitment of young diplomats ready to carry the nation’s aspirations into the global arena.

“You are the key to Kenya’s diplomatic future. The stewardship of our foreign policy lies in your ability to bring fresh perspectives, bold ideas and modern solutions to age-old challenges,” said the PS.

She highlighted Diaspora Diplomacy as a core pillar of Kenya’s foreign policy, noting that the interests of millions of Kenyans living abroad are central to the country’s international agenda. The very creation of the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, she said, was a testament to that priority.

PS Njogu encouraged the cadets to be proactive and embrace the use of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, to drive smart, responsive and impactful diplomacy. She challenged them to align their work with the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda by identifying opportunities abroad that can directly benefit ordinary Kenyans.

“We want sharp, innovative officers who can translate policy into action, and who understand that diplomacy today goes beyond protocol. It is about results, visibility and strategic partnerships,” she stated.

Ambassador Patrick Wamoto, Acting Director General of the Foreign Service Academy, also underscored the importance of the training, saying it equips cadets with the tools to be retooled, reskilled and repurposed for effective service.

The PS was joined by senior officials including Dr PWC K’Angira, Director of Human Resource Management and Development, Mr Glenns Etyang, Deputy Director of Operations, and Mr John Jogo, Deputy Director of HRM and Development.

The induction marks a pivotal step in shaping a modern foreign service corps, ready to represent Kenya with pride, professionalism and purpose.
