Police Launch Crackdown on Narcotics in Vihiga, Seize Cannabis and Tobacco

A suspected drug peddler has been arrested in Vihiga County following a successful anti-narcotics operation conducted by the National Police Service (NPS) earlier today.

The targeted raid took place at Majengo Trading Centre in Marikiti Village, Vihiga Sub-County, where officers, acting on intelligence, apprehended a suspect found in possession of a significant quantity of illegal substances. Recovered at the scene were approximately 3 kilograms of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, 72 rolls of the same drug, and 1 kilogram of tobacco, all concealed in nylon sacks and hidden in a plastic container on the suspect’s premises.

The suspect is currently being held in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.

In a statement, the National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug-related crimes. “We remain dedicated to our relentless fight against narcotic drugs and related offenses. Our efforts are strengthened through ongoing collaboration with local communities and stakeholders to dismantle drug networks and protect public health and safety,” the statement read.

The operation is part of a broader nationwide campaign targeting drug trafficking and abuse, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas where illegal drug activity is on the rise.

Residents have been urged to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement as authorities intensify efforts to eliminate the drug menace in the region.
