Nairobi Central MCA Mwaniki Kwenya Condemns Police Misconduct, Demands Swift Action

By John Kariuki

Nairobi Central Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mwaniki Kwenya has strongly condemned the police misconduct witnessed today, terming it as completely unacceptable and a blatant violation of public trust.

“What has happened today is totally uncalled for,” MCA Mwaniki Kwenya said, voicing his deep concern over the continued cases of police misconduct. “The police have the duty to protect the citizens, not to harm them. I call upon the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) together with all relevant authorities to act with immediate effect and bring the culprit to book.”

The MCA emphasized that such incidents cannot continue to occur unchecked, noting that swift and decisive action is necessary to restore public confidence in the police service.

“This cannot keep on happening any more. As people’s representatives, we have a responsibility to come up with a law that will bring sanity among the police force,” Mwaniki Kwenya asserted. “We must ensure that police officers are held to the highest standards of accountability, and that they operate within the confines of the law.”

He further stressed that there is an urgent need for legislative reforms aimed at curbing rogue behavior within the police ranks and fostering a culture of discipline, respect for human rights, and professionalism.

The MCA’s remarks come amid growing public outcry over cases of police brutality, harassment, and misuse of power in the country. His bold stand adds to the increasing calls from leaders and civil society organizations demanding urgent reforms within the security sector.

Mwaniki Kwenya reaffirmed his commitment to pushing for policies that prioritize the safety and dignity of all citizens, adding that the role of the police must always remain to serve and protect the people.

“The time for change is now,” he concluded. “Kenyans deserve better.”
