Police have launched a major security operation in Nakuru County following a surge in violent crimes in the areas of Rhonda, Kaptembwa, and Bondeni. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the deployment of specialized anti-robbery squads to pursue and dismantle organized armed gangs terrorizing local residents.
“Several anti-robbery teams have been dispatched and are pursuing identified armed gangs whose operations have been analysed. The operations seek to bring an end to their reign of terror and rid the streets of armed criminals,” the DCI said in a statement on Tuesday.
Authorities have specifically identified the notorious ‘Confirm’ gang as a primary target in the crackdown. The gang is believed to be behind a series of crimes including burglaries, smuggling, assaults, and intimidation of locals using crude weapons. Residents claim the gangs operate around the clock, instilling fear in the community and disrupting daily life.
The intensified operation bore fruit on Monday when detectives arrested five suspects and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an intelligence-led raid. The arrests were carried out jointly by officers from the DCI’s Operation Action Team, the Crime Research Bureau, and Nakuru County detectives.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday to face charges related to armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms.
In response to growing public concern, the DCI has assured Nakuru residents and the wider Kenyan public that restoring security is a top priority. “We are committed to ensuring that all armed criminals are brought to justice, and the safety of all citizens is protected,” the statement concluded.
