Natembeya Decries "Targeted Intimidation Campaign" Against His Supporters

Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has raised alarm over what he describes as a "coordinated campaign of intimidation" targeting his political allies and supporters. In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the governor accused unnamed state agencies and political actors of orchestrating arbitrary arrests, police summonses, and harassment of individuals aligned with his administration.

According to Governor Natembeya, those being targeted include Members of County Assembly (MCAs) supportive of his leadership, vocal opinion leaders, social media influencers sympathetic to the Tawe movement, and grassroots activists across the county.

“The scheme is clear: to intimidate Natembeya’s supporters with endless summonses and arrests,” the governor said. “The targets are obvious — MCAs aligned with our vision, vocal citizens online and offline, and dedicated Tawe foot soldiers on the ground.”

The Tawe slogan, a rallying cry against impunity and political interference, has been a defining feature of Natembeya’s administration and campaign messaging since his election. It represents a bold, defiant posture against the status quo and has galvanized a strong following, particularly among the youth and reform-minded voters.

In his remarks, Natembeya vowed that no amount of pressure would derail the movement he leads.

“You can break our bones, but you’ll never break the spirit of Tawe,” he declared. “We stand with God and the people, and that is enough.”

The governor did not name specific state agencies or political opponents behind the alleged crackdown but hinted at wider political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Observers note that tensions in the region have been rising in recent months, with growing friction between Natembeya’s camp and rivals both within and outside the county. The increasing number of police summonses issued to pro-Natembeya MCAs and activists has raised concerns among civil society groups, some of whom have called for independent investigations.

Human rights organizations have also weighed in, urging authorities to uphold the rule of law and avoid what they term “selective justice.”

Natembeya’s critics, however, argue that his comments are meant to deflect attention from internal challenges in his administration. Nonetheless, the growing polarization suggests that the political climate in Trans-Nzoia is entering a turbulent phase.
