Muslim Community in Uasin Gishu Marks Eid-ul-Adha with Prayers and Mosque Fundraiser

Hundreds of Muslims gathered at the Kapyemit Primary School grounds in Uasin Gishu County on Thursday morning to mark the annual Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar.

The prayers were attended by prominent community leaders and government officials, including Farouk Kibet, a close aide to President William Ruto. The atmosphere was one of unity, reflection, and gratitude, as worshippers commemorated the religious festival that honours the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice in obedience to God.

In a show of community spirit and religious solidarity, the congregation also launched a fundraising initiative aimed at supporting the construction of the Tawakal Jamia Mosque, a proposed place of worship that will serve Muslims in the surrounding areas of Uasin Gishu.

Speaking during the event, Farouk Kibet lauded the Muslim community for their commitment to faith and community development. He emphasized the role of mosques not just as spiritual centres, but also as vital institutions that foster peace, education, and social cohesion.

"This mosque project is a testament to the strength of unity and purpose. Mosques are not only places of prayer but also hubs of learning, dialogue, and support for our communities," said Kibet.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting freedom of worship and community-led development projects that bring Kenyans together.

The fundraising drive for Tawakal Jamia Mosque drew wide support from local residents, business people, and leaders present at the prayers. Organizers expressed optimism that the construction would begin soon and serve generations to come.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is observed by Muslims globally through prayers, acts of charity, and the slaughtering of sacrificial animals in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion. In Kenya, it remains a national holiday that brings communities together across regions and backgrounds.
