Kapsabet Girls at 100: The School That’s Raising Generations of Stars

Nestled in the rolling hills of Nandi County, Kapsabet Girls High School stands not just as an institution of learning, but as a symbol of transformation, resilience, and aspiration. This past weekend, the school marked a historic milestone — 100 years since its founding — in a jubilant celebration that brought together students, alumni, teachers, and dignitaries to honor a century of unwavering commitment to girl-child education.

At the heart of this celebration was the woman who has steered the school to new heights: Chief Principal Mrs. Mary Kiprop. Known for her infectious energy, humility, and results-driven leadership, Mrs. Kiprop has become a beloved figure within and beyond the school gates. Her impact is evident not just in the numbers, but in the culture she has cultivated — one of hard work, unity, and self-belief.

“She is not just a principal, she is a performer,” said one teacher during the festivities. “She leads from the front, and we all feel her drive. It’s contagious.”

Indeed, under Mrs. Kiprop’s stewardship, Kapsabet Girls has earned its place among the academic elite. In the 2024 KCSE examinations, the school posted a stellar mean grade of 9.081, ranking number one among girls’ schools in the county and third overall. Even more impressively, every candidate secured a place at university — a 100% transition rate that many institutions only dream of.

But numbers alone don’t tell the whole story.

Walking through the manicured grounds of Kapsabet Girls, you sense a shared purpose. The students move with confidence. Teachers speak with pride. There is a rhythm here — of discipline, determination, and mutual respect. And Mrs. Kiprop, always visible and approachable, is central to this dynamic.

“She motivates us every day,” said a Form Four student, beaming. “Even when we feel low, she lifts us up. She believes in us before we believe in ourselves.”

The centenary celebration was a perfect blend of joy and reflection. The school’s rich history was brought to life through music, poetry, and speeches. But perhaps the most touching moments came during the awards segment — a tradition started under Mrs. Kiprop's leadership. Last year’s top KCSE performers were celebrated with tokens and certificates, their hard work publicly honored before peers and parents. Teachers, too, were awarded for their dedication, and even non-teaching staff received recognition — a rare gesture that highlighted the principal’s holistic view of what makes a school succeed.

“Every hand here matters,” Mrs. Kiprop noted in her keynote speech. “From the classroom to the kitchen, from the staffroom to the dormitory — it takes all of us to raise a girl to her fullest potential.”

That spirit of collective effort has defined Kapsabet Girls for a century — and now, under a leader as visionary as Mrs. Kiprop, the school is poised for even greater heights.

As the celebrations drew to a close and the school choir sang a moving rendition of the national anthem, there was a deep sense that this was more than just an anniversary. It was a reaffirmation — of purpose, pride, and potential.

For 100 years, Kapsabet Girls has empowered generations of young women. And with leaders like Mrs. Kiprop at the helm, the next century looks even brighter.
