Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Chairman Patrick Karinga Munuhe has conveyed his condolences to the students, teachers, parents, and staff of Utumishi Girls School following the fire incident that affected the institution.

Speaking after learning of the tragedy, Munuhe expressed sympathy to all those affected and wished a quick recovery to those who sustained injuries. He called on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the cause of the fire and ensure accountability where necessary.

"We stand with the Utumishi Girls School community during this difficult time. It is important that investigators determine the exact cause of the fire so that similar incidents can be prevented in the future," said Munuhe.

The KNUT chairman also urged the government, school administrations, and education stakeholders to strengthen fire safety measures in learning institutions across the country. He emphasized the need for proper emergency exits, functional firefighting equipment, regular safety drills, and enhanced awareness among students and staff.

Munuhe noted that improved safety standards would help prevent future fire outbreaks and safeguard the lives of learners and teachers.

Authorities are continuing with investigations as the school community begins recovery efforts following the incident.
