Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has announced the establishment of three new police stations in response to a directive from President William Ruto aimed at strengthening security and maintaining law and order across the country.
The announcement comes after President Ruto’s visit to Ruaraka on March 11, where he expressed concern over a surge in insecurity in the area. During his address, the President directed IG Kanja to immediately take action.
"Because of the insecurity in the area, I have directed the Inspector General of Police to ensure that this police station is gazetted by Friday," President Ruto said during the visit. "Equally, police officers should be immediately deployed here to protect the property and life of people in the area. That will help the people of Ruaraka to go about their business without distractions."
In line with this directive, IG Kanja confirmed the establishment of Utalii Police Station in Ruaraka Sub-county, Nairobi. This move is expected to bolster security in the area and ensure swift police response to incidents.
Beyond Nairobi, two additional police facilities have been set up in Turkana County to address long-standing security concerns in the region. These include Oropoi Police Station and Loreng Police Post, both located in Turkana West Sub-county. The new facilities are aimed at curbing crime and improving law enforcement in some of the country's most remote and underserved regions.
According to Kanja, these three are part of a broader national strategy to expand police presence and enhance public safety. "The establishment of these stations is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen law enforcement infrastructure and bring services closer to the people," he said.
The Inspector General added that more police stations are in the pipeline as the National Police Service continues to respond to evolving security challenges across Kenya.
The new developments have been welcomed by local leaders and residents, who hope the increased police presence will deter crime and foster a safer environment for economic and social activities.
