An elderly woman in Sibanga-Scheme Village, Sitatunga Ward, Cherang’any Constituency, is now living in a new, decent home thanks to an intervention by the George Natembeya Foundation.
Mama Akalitete Inglilai, a long-time resident of the area, had been living in a severely dilapidated structure that had deteriorated to the point of being uninhabitable. Her plight had gone unnoticed for years, until the George Natembeya Foundation stepped in to offer a lifeline.
Moved by her condition, the foundation — which focuses on supporting vulnerable community members — launched a project to construct a new house for Mama Akalitete. The initiative was part of the foundation’s broader mission to restore dignity and improve the quality of life for the less fortunate across Trans Nzoia County.
The house, which was officially handed over this week, marks a significant transformation in Mama Akalitete’s life. What was once a symbol of hardship is now a beacon of hope.
“Every citizen deserves to live in dignity, no matter their age or status,” said Governor George Natembeya during the handover ceremony. “This foundation was created to act — not to watch — and Mama Akalitete’s story is one of many that remind us why we must never look away from those in need.”
Local residents gathered in large numbers to witness the event, applauding the foundation’s efforts and urging for more such interventions across the county.
Community leader Samuel Wasike lauded the project, noting, “This is not just about a house — it’s about restoring someone’s pride and showing that they matter.”
The George Natembeya Foundation has been actively involved in grassroots projects across Trans Nzoia, with a focus on housing, education, healthcare, and empowerment of vulnerable groups.
