Eldoret-Based Human Rights Activist Warns of Looming Political Crisis, Calls for Suspension of Political Rallies

Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has issued a stern warning to the Inspector General of Police and the Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security over what he termed as a looming national crisis, fueled by organized political goons allegedly planning to destabilize the country under the guise of fighting for justice, rights, and democracy.

In a strongly worded statement released Monday, Ngetich expressed concern over what he described as serious indicators of an imminent mass protest that could lead to violent confrontations between youth and security forces. According to him, certain elements within the political class are using scheduled events such as the upcoming "GenZ Meeting" on June 25 as a platform to incite unrest.

“There are clear signs of coordinated efforts by some political leaders to manipulate frustrated and unemployed youth to rise against security forces for political gain,” Ngetich warned. “This is a dangerous trajectory that risks plunging the country into ethnic conflict and civil strife.”

Ngetich called on the National Security Council and government leadership to take urgent steps by suspending all political rallies and gatherings for at least one month. He argued that this cooling-off period would give security agencies time to assess the volatile political climate and take proactive measures to avert violence.

“Kenya has enjoyed peace for many years, but this peace must be guarded. Rights and freedoms must be exercised responsibly. Political manipulation of the youth is reckless and must be stopped,” he added.

The activist accused a section of the political leadership, particularly aligned with the former Deputy President, of using inflammatory rhetoric to divide the nation along tribal lines and incite public unrest.

“The same leaders who claim to fight for democracy are regrouping tribes and promoting hatred through coded language like ‘ours and cousins’. Instead of offering solutions to the country’s economic and social issues, they are pushing Kenya toward chaos,” Ngetich stated.

He urged the government to conduct thorough investigations into groups allegedly recruiting vulnerable youth under the pretense of democratic engagement. Ngetich emphasized that while the Constitution guarantees freedom of assembly, it also imposes a responsibility to protect life, peace, and national unity.

“No one is above the law. The government must act now to flush out criminals hiding behind political and tribal affiliations before the situation escalates further, especially with the 2027 general election on the horizon.”

He concluded by urging political leaders to choose peace over provocation and called for national reflection and a collective effort to preserve Kenya’s hard-earned stability.

“Let’s take a break from politics and focus on unity, social harmony, and economic recovery. Our youth need empowerment through education and jobs — not manipulation for political warfare,” he said.

The statement comes amid rising political tensions across the country, with multiple stakeholders calling for restraint and responsibility ahead of planned public gatherings.
