The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has confirmed the arrest of several allies of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya following their appearance alongside him at the Milimani Law Courts.
The individuals arrested include John Chigi Makhanu, Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Sinyerere Ward; Frank Kuyala Wabwile, the Governor’s protocol officer; and Benard Muganda, former MCA for Motosiet Ward. They are expected to be arraigned at the Kitale Law Courts to face various charges.
According to a statement by the EACC, the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into incidents that occurred on May 19, when EACC officers conducted a court-sanctioned search at Governor Natembeya’s residence. The operation reportedly turned chaotic after county officials and members of the public allegedly resisted the officers.
“Twenty-four suspects were arrested and charged with various offences at the Kitale Law Courts,” said an EACC spokesperson. “Among them were Hon. Benard Muganda, who was arrested yesterday, while Hon. John Chigi Makhanu and Mr. Frank Kuyala Wabwile were apprehended today.”
The commission accuses the suspects of inciting members of the public to obstruct justice, assault law enforcement officers, and vandalize government property. Notably, five government vehicles—valued at approximately Ksh 1.2 million—were reportedly damaged during the confrontation.
EACC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability and upholding the rule of law, particularly in cases involving public officials and interference with lawful investigations.
As the legal process unfolds, all eyes remain on the developments surrounding Governor Natembeya and his administration amid growing scrutiny over governance and ethics in county leadership.
