Police have arrested another suspect in connection with the ongoing investigation into a spate of violent robberies in Nakuru County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Elijah Kimani Kinyanjui was apprehended during a targeted operation in the Mzee Wa Nyama area. The arrest brings the total number of suspects detained in the case to six.
“In his possession were exhibits recently robbed from a Pakawa resident by armed gunmen,” the DCI said in a statement released Wednesday. Authorities confirmed that Kinyanjui will be enjoined in the case already facing the previously arrested suspects.
Earlier this week, on Monday, DCI officers arrested seven suspects, including a recently released ex-convict, believed to be linked to the violent crime wave that has gripped parts of Nakuru in recent weeks.
Outside the DCI offices in Nakuru, police displayed an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in the string of robberies.
The arrests follow a tragic incident on Sunday night when a police constable was fatally shot while on patrol in the Freehold area. Two other officers sustained injuries—one to the stomach and the other to the shoulder—and are currently undergoing treatment at Nakuru Level Five Hospital.
So far, six suspects are being held in connection with the shooting as investigations continue.
