Uasin Gishu Civil Society Network Launches Social Accountability Drive in Partnership with TISA

By Kachalan Ann

The Uasin Gishu  County Civil Society Network, in collaboration with The Institute for Social Accountability (TISA), has launched a community engagement initiative aimed at promoting social accountability and strengthening citizen participation in governance.

The initiative, which kicked off with a sensitization forum, seeks to empower residents across Uasin Gishu’s sub-counties to actively participate in monitoring government projects and holding both public officials and service providers accountable. The forum also aimed to educate citizens on their roles in ensuring transparency and responsiveness in public service delivery.

“We want to ensure that processes are followed, and when a project is initiated, it serves its intended purpose,” said Winny Jelagat , a member of the Civil Society Network. “This will foster collaboration between community members and government officials.”

As part of the initiative, the civil society groups plan to track ongoing and upcoming government projects from inception to completion. This monitoring will be done with support from the Ward  Climate Committee to ensure that all developments align with community needs and are executed with transparency.

The engagement also emphasized the importance of citizen awareness and access to information on social accountability. By equipping the community with knowledge and tools, organizers believe citizens will become more proactive in demanding efficient service delivery.

In response to the growing call for accountability, the Uasin Gishu County Government has pledged to establish a Project Management Committee. This body will work to ensure the timely and effective execution of projects and reduce the number of stalled or abandoned initiatives.

This marks the first step in what is expected to be a series of engagements to strengthen citizen oversight and deepen democratic governance in the region.
