A wave of hope and ambition swept through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) last evening as over 100 young Kenyans departed the country for overseas employment under the government-backed Kazi Majuu labour migration initiative.
The cohort, bound for Qatar, Iraq, Russia, Dubai, and Serbia, is part of the Ministry of Labour’s strategic effort to address youth unemployment by securing dignified job placements abroad. Most of the recruits will be employed in the construction sector, with others expected to take on roles across various skilled and semi-skilled professions.
According to officials, the Kazi Majuu program emphasizes transparency and integrity in the recruitment and deployment process, ensuring that candidates are well-prepared and their rights protected. The initiative has been praised for offering not only economic relief but also a sense of pride and opportunity for young Kenyans looking to transform their lives.
“These young men and women leave as more than just workers—they are ambassadors of Kenya’s resilience and potential,” said a statement from the Ministry of Labour. “They represent the spirit of determination and the pursuit of better livelihoods.”
As they begin new journeys across the globe, the government has reassured those still awaiting deployment to remain patient, with further opportunities set to open through expanding international partnerships.
The Kazi Majuu program, launched as part of broader national efforts to tackle unemployment, continues to gain momentum and public support. Authorities have also warned against misinformation that seeks to discredit the initiative, calling for unity in supporting youth empowerment through legal and structured migration.
