President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, is set to hold her traditional engagement ceremony, popularly known as Koito, with Tanzanian entrepreneur Isaiah Yunke on Saturday at Intonna Farm in Kilgoris, Narok County.

The ceremony is expected to bring together family members, close friends and a host of prominent guests from Kenya and Tanzania, in what is anticipated to be a high-profile cultural celebration.

Among the dignitaries expected to attend is Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, highlighting the significance of the occasion and the close ties between the two neighbouring East African countries.

Yunke is a Tanzanian entrepreneur and founder of SomaApp, a technology platform that has reportedly helped connect more than 7,000 Africans with scholarship opportunities abroad.

His work in technology and social impact has earned him international recognition. In 2018, Yunke received the Queen’s Young Leaders Award from the late Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his contribution to social change through technology.

A year later, he was named an Ashoka Fellow and featured on the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list, which recognises young Africans making an impact across various sectors.

Yunke has also been credited with making history at the age of 17 when he became the first African to address the G8 Summit on child rights advocacy in 2007.

The upcoming Koito ceremony is expected to blend traditional customs with a gathering of influential personalities from both Kenya and Tanzania.

The event will mark a significant milestone for Charlene and Yunke as their families formally come together in accordance with African cultural traditions.
