The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service, Mr. Eliud Lagat, made an impromptu visit to Runyenjes Police Station this evening in a move aimed at reinforcing the National Police Service’s commitment to effective service delivery and operational readiness.
Mr. Lagat was received by Sub-County Police Commander SSP Abdikadir Malicha and Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS) IP Ann Gikunyo. His visit included a comprehensive inspection of critical areas within the station, such as the report office, holding cells, traffic section, and the Sub-County Commander's office.
Addressing the officers on duty, DIG Lagat commended them for their dedication and underscored the importance of maintaining professionalism, discipline, and integrity in policing. He noted that public trust is cultivated through transparency and accountability, and called on officers to uphold ethical conduct in their daily duties.
“Community confidence in the police begins with each one of you,” he said. “Let us ensure that we serve with honour, and always remain accountable to the public we are sworn to protect.”
The DIG also highlighted the importance of teamwork and mutual support among officers, saying collaboration was key to effective service delivery. He reaffirmed the National Police Service's resolve to improve working conditions, enhance officers' welfare, and provide the resources necessary for modern, efficient policing.
Mr. Lagat further emphasized that transforming police stations into centres of excellence is a top priority for the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja.
His visit, seen as a morale booster for officers, was praised by the station staff who welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with top command. Officers expressed appreciation for the hands-on leadership approach, which they said fosters stronger communication and support from the top ranks.
DIG Lagat was accompanied by Eastern Regional Police Commander Mr. Charles Naibei, AIG.
