Activist Kipkorir Ngetich Hails President Ruto’s Forgiveness Gesture, Calls Out Political Hypocrisy

An Eldoret-based human rights activist has come out strongly in support of President William Ruto’s recent public appeal for forgiveness, describing it as a courageous act of leadership and national unity. Kipkorir Ngetich, a vocal advocate for good governance and reconciliation, praised the Head of State for following in the footsteps of past presidents who used public apologies to promote healing and cohesion.

Speaking to reporters, Ngetich commended President Ruto’s bold move to seek forgiveness for any wrongs committed during his administration over the past two years. He likened the gesture to those made by the late President Daniel arap Moi and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, both of whom publicly apologized to the nation during critical political moments in Kenya’s history.

“President Ruto demonstrated true statesmanship by asking for forgiveness. This is not weakness, but strength — the same strength that Moi and Uhuru showed in asking Kenyans for grace during their leadership. This is the leadership Kenya needs,” said Ngetich.

However, Ngetich expressed disappointment over criticisms of Ruto’s gesture by opposition leaders Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka, calling their response “hypocrisy of the highest order.” He accused both leaders of previously embracing similar gestures from past presidents, only to now mock President Ruto’s call for national healing.

“You cannot accept Moi and Uhuru’s apologies and then ridicule Ruto for doing the same. If anything, Gachagua and Kalonzo must first apologize to Kenyans for their own role in past regimes that were marked by economic mismanagement, political oppression, and tribal division,” he asserted.

Ngetich called on young people and the wider public to remain vigilant and not be misled by leaders he described as “driven by pride, bitterness, and thirst for power rather than a genuine vision for Kenya’s future.”

He warned against political manipulation, particularly of the youth, by what he termed as “tribal chieftains” masquerading as national leaders. According to the activist, neither Gachagua nor Kalonzo have presented clear policy alternatives or development roadmaps to address the country’s pressing challenges, especially youth unemployment.

“When Kalonzo was Vice President, there’s little to remember in terms of real impact. And Gachagua, during his days in the provincial administration under KANU, was associated with systemic repression. These are not the new angels they claim to be,” Ngetich added.

He further applauded President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for prioritizing unity and development over ethnic politics and personal ambition.

“The Ruto-Raila axis represents a broad-based government that includes all Kenyans, regardless of tribe or voting patterns. It is a vision of one Kenya, one people — and this is the kind of leadership that can move the country forward,” said Ngetich.

Calling for a multi-sectoral approach to addressing the youth crisis in Kenya, the activist emphasized the need for data-driven policy solutions focused on growth, education, mentorship, job creation, and industrial expansion. He urged for a national youth strategy rooted in compassion, unity, and forgiveness — values he says should be instilled from an early age.

“Our youth deserve leaders who embody humility and moral clarity — not political opportunists chasing numbers. Forgiveness is not a sign of weakness. It is a path to healing, and Kenya must walk it together,” he concluded.

Ngetich’s statement comes amid heightened political tensions and national debates on leadership ethics, youth empowerment, and the role of forgiveness in public life.
