Shollei Visits Kipkaren Mosque, Pledges Lasting Solution for Kambi Nyasi Evictees

Uasin Gishu Woman Representative and National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei has reaffirmed her commitment to support victims of the Kambi Nyasi land evictions following a visit to the Kipkaren Mosque, where several displaced families have sought refuge.

The mosque, located in Kipkenyo Ward within Kapseret Constituency, has become a temporary shelter for families left homeless after the evictions, with women and children bearing the brunt of the crisis.

Leaders Join Hands to Support Displaced Families

During the visit, Shollei was accompanied by local leaders and community stakeholders, including activist Juma Okumu and Abubakar Bini, the Chairman of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) North Rift.

The leaders met members of the mosque congregation and engaged directly with the evicted families, listening to their concerns and documenting the challenges they are facing, including lack of shelter, food insecurity, and disruption of livelihoods.

Shollei acknowledged the gravity of the situation and assured the affected families that efforts were underway to address their plight.

“I have heard your concerns, and I want to assure you that I will personally follow up on this matter to ensure we find a lasting and dignified solution for all those affected,” she said.

Mosque Commended for Humanitarian Support

The Woman Representative commended the leadership and congregation of Kipkaren Mosque for opening their doors to displaced families during their time of need.

She noted that the mosque’s role in providing shelter and support demonstrates the importance of community solidarity and compassion in times of crisis.

“This mosque has become a place of hope for many families. I commend the leadership and the faithful for standing with their brothers and sisters during this difficult period,” she added.

CIPK North Rift chairman Abubakar Bini echoed the sentiments, emphasizing the role of religious institutions in promoting social welfare and unity.

“As faith leaders, we have a responsibility to support humanity, especially in times of distress. What is happening here is a reflection of our shared values of compassion and care,” he said.

Activists Call for Justice and Fair Resolution

Activist Juma Okumu called for a fair and transparent resolution to the land dispute, urging authorities to prioritize the rights and dignity of the affected families.

“These are families that deserve justice. Evictions should not render people destitute. We must ensure that proper processes are followed and that humane solutions are found,” he said.

He further called on government agencies and leaders to work collaboratively in addressing the root causes of such disputes to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Relief Support to Cushion Families

In addition to engaging the community, Shollei donated dry food items and bedding to the displaced families to help ease their immediate suffering.

The donation was received with gratitude by the beneficiaries, many of whom expressed relief at receiving much-needed support during a period of uncertainty.

“This assistance will go a long way in helping us as we figure out our next steps,” said one of the affected residents.

Commitment to Long-Term Solutions

Shollei emphasized that while humanitarian support is critical, long-term solutions must be pursued to ensure affected families are resettled and their livelihoods restored.

She pledged to engage relevant government agencies, land authorities, and stakeholders to find a sustainable resolution to the Kambi Nyasi eviction issue.

“This is not just about today. We must work towards a permanent solution that restores dignity and stability to these families,” she stated.

The visit highlighted the urgent need for coordinated interventions to address displacement and land-related challenges in the region.

As discussions continue, affected families remain hopeful that the involvement of national leaders, activists, and religious institutions will lead to meaningful and lasting change.
