Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and Kesses Member of Parliament CPA Julius Rutto have led residents of Eldoret City in commemorating the first anniversary of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.

The leaders joined residents at Silverline in Eldoret City for a liturgical service and candle-lighting ceremony held to honour the memory of Raila and reflect on his contribution to Kenya’s political history and democratic journey.

Mandago said the ceremony provided an opportunity for residents to come together in remembrance of Raila, whom he described as a fallen hero and a key figure in Kenya’s struggle for democracy.

He said the gathering was not only meant to mark the anniversary but also to give residents an opportunity to reflect on the legacy left behind by the former Prime Minister.

“Today, together with the Member of Parliament for Kesses Constituency, Hon. CPA Julius Rutto, I led Uasin Gishu residents in a liturgical service and candle-lighting ceremony marking the first anniversary of our fallen hero and Father of Democracy, His Excellency the late Raila Odinga, in the heart of Eldoret City,” Mandago said.

The senator paid tribute to Raila, saying his contribution to the country would continue to be remembered by generations of Kenyans.

Mandago also offered prayers for the departed leader, wishing him eternal rest as the country continues to remember his years of public service and political contribution.

Kesses MP Julius Rutto, who also participated in the ceremony, said the event offered residents an opportunity to reflect on Raila’s place in Kenya’s political history.

Rutto said he joined Mandago and residents at Silverline to commemorate the anniversary of the late opposition chief and reflect on the impact of his years in public service.

“Together with Hon Senator Jackson Mandago, I joined residents at Silverline in Eldoret City to commemorate the anniversary of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga,” Rutto said.

According to Rutto, the commemoration provided an opportunity for those present to remember Raila’s contribution to Kenya’s political history while reflecting on the legacy he left behind.

The liturgical service and candle-lighting ceremony brought together residents in Eldoret City in a solemn moment of remembrance, with participants paying tribute to Raila through prayers and reflection.

Raila remained one of Kenya’s most prominent political figures, having played a major role in the country’s multiparty politics and democratic reforms over several decades.

The Eldoret ceremony comes as Kenyans continue to reflect on his political journey, public service and influence on the country’s governance and democratic space.

The participation of Mandago and Rutto also underscored the significance of the commemoration in Uasin Gishu, where residents gathered to honour the late leader and remember his contribution to the nation.

The ceremony concluded with prayers and candle-lighting in memory of Raila, as leaders and residents joined in paying tribute to his life and legacy.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
