Award-winning teacher and headteacher of Kamariny Primary and Junior School, Viola Jemutai Barsuliai, has been recognised as the Best Child Protection Champion in Keiyo North Sub-County, Elgeiyo Marakwet County.

Jemutai emerged Position One at the sub-county level in the 2026 Child Protection Champion Award organised by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebrations.

In a letter dated September 25, 2026, TSC Acting Commission Secretary/CEO Dr E.J. Mitei commended Jemutai for her exceptional commitment to the protection, safety and wellbeing of learners.

The commission noted that she had demonstrated exemplary vigilance in safeguarding children while promoting safe, respectful and supportive learning environments.

Her efforts, TSC said, had strengthened awareness of learner protection and wellbeing within the education community.

The award also recognises her professionalism and positive impact on learners, fellow educators, educational institutions and the wider community.

Speaking after receiving the recognition, Jemutai thanked God for His grace, favour and strength, while appreciating TSC for recognising her work and providing opportunities to serve and grow professionally.

She also thanked fellow teachers, other awardees, her community and everyone who had supported her journey.

Jemutai dedicated the recognition to children, whom she described as the reason behind her commitment to child protection.

“You are the reason I started, the reason I continue, and the reason the work will always matter. I promise to keep showing up for you,” she said.

She called on the community to work together in safeguarding children, saying, “Pamoja tuwalinde watoto wetu.”
