NCPWD Steps Up Disability Empowerment Drive with Mentorship, Business Support in Coast Region

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has intensified efforts to empower persons with disabilities through mentorship programmes and economic support initiatives targeting learners and entrepreneurs in the Coast region.

NCPWD officials visited Sahajanand Special School for a mentorship session aimed at helping learners with disabilities recognise their strengths, build self-confidence and develop the courage to speak up as they prepare for a promising future.

The interactive session incorporated personal development activities, giving learners an opportunity to openly engage with mentors, share their experiences and embrace a positive outlook towards their abilities and future prospects.

The Council is also conducting monitoring exercises targeting entrepreneurs and beneficiary groups supported under its Economic Empowerment Programme in Kilifi and Mombasa counties.

The exercise provides an opportunity for NCPWD officials to meet small business owners who received startup capital from the Council, assess the progress of their enterprises and identify challenges affecting their operations.

The beneficiaries are also receiving guidance on financial management, savings strategies and ways of addressing day-to-day operational challenges to improve the sustainability of their businesses.

NCPWD said the continued monitoring and mentorship activities are aimed at ensuring beneficiaries make effective use of the support provided while building pathways towards greater economic independence.

The growth of enterprises supported through the programme demonstrates the potential impact of targeted interventions in helping persons with disabilities establish sustainable livelihoods and participate more actively in economic development.
