Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has seen off President William Ruto as he departed for New York, United States, to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Murkomen said he was honoured to see off the President as he begins a series of high-level engagements at the UN General Assembly, whose general debate is scheduled for September 22–28, 2026.

According to Murkomen, President Ruto will use the visit to strengthen Kenya’s influence on the global stage, attract more foreign direct investment and advance Africa’s role in shaping the global digital economy.

The President is also expected to pursue partnerships in sectors including energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, health, agriculture and technology. He will co-chair investment roundtables hosted by the Africa Finance Corporation and Global Africa Business Initiative alongside businessman Aliko Dangote.

Artificial intelligence is also expected to feature prominently in Kenya’s agenda, with Ruto set to co-lead the AI Middle Powers Initiative with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and advance initiatives aimed at increasing investment in Africa’s AI ecosystem.

The 81st UN General Assembly is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”
